Karwa Chauth 2025 Moonrise Time: When Will the Moon Be Visible in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata & Other Cities?

The much-awaited festival of Karwa Chauth 2025 has finally arrived, a sacred day when married women across India observe a fast and pray for the long life and prosperity of their husbands. This festival, steeped in tradition and devotion, falls every year on the Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha in the Kartik month. On this day, women abstain from food and water from sunrise to moonrise, breaking their fast only after sighting the moon and offering it prayers.

According to the Hindu Panchang, the Kartik Krishna Chaturthi Tithi will begin at 10:54 PM on October 9 and end at 7:38 PM on October 10, making Friday, October 10, 2025, the official date for the Karwa Chauth fast this year. The moonrise time—the most anticipated moment of the evening—has been forecast for 8:14 PM, although it varies slightly across different cities.

According to the Drik Panchang, the moon rises at different times depending on your location. The moon will be visible around 8:55 PM in Mumbai and 8:13 PM in Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad. Devotees in eastern places such as Kolkata can expect the moon to rise earlier at 7:45 PM, while in Chennai it will be visible by 7:30 PM. Northern cities like Chandigarh (8:08 PM), Ludhiana (8:11 PM), and Dehradun (8:04 PM) will see the moon significantly early. The moon is expected to rise around 7:48 PM in Shimla, and 8:42 PM in Patna and Lucknow.

Weather Forecast for Karwa Chauth 2025

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) updates provided by NBC News, most portions of northern India, including Delhi NCR, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, are forecast to enjoy clear skies, guaranteeing that devotees do not have to wait long to see the moon. However, light clouds may form over areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, but visibility is predicted to be unaffected.

Temperatures in Jammu are forecast to hover around 29°C, while in Srinagar they will be 22°C during the day and approximately 5°C at night. The IMD predicts dry weather in the plains, with just isolated light showers expected in higher areas.

How to Break the Fast on Karwa Chauth

Traditionally, women start the day by eating Sargi—a pre-dawn breakfast cooked by their mothers-in-law—before sunrise. After fasting throughout the day, women execute nighttime rituals that include lighting a ghee diya, presenting roli, rice, and sweets to Karwa Mata, and praying for their husband's health. The fast ends after they see the moon and offer it Arghya (water offering), then take the first sip of water and bite of food from their husband's hand.

As the festival continues to represent love, faith, and everlasting friendship, Karwa Chauth 2025 emphasises the rich cultural origins and ongoing traditions that bring millions of Indian families together in devotion and celebration.

The festival of Karva Chauth is not just a fast, but a symbol of the love and devotion of husband and wife. On this day, married women adorn themselves with sixteen adornments, apply mehndi, and celebrate this sacred festival with their families. Wishes are also pouring in on social media: "Happy Karva Chauth 2025! May your name be in every prayer, may you be with me in every birth."
