Indian Fashion Industry Mourns the Loss of Legendary Italian Designer Giorgio Armani

The world of fashion today lost a name that had changed the definition of modern style. Italy's legendary fashion designer Giorgio Armani, known as "King Giorgio", died at the age of 91. Armani, who breathed his last at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, will always be missed by the fashion world. He was absent for the first time from Milan Fashion Week in June 2025 and was preparing for the big celebration of his brand's 50th anniversary this month.
Armani was not just a designer, but a visionary. His simple designs, clean cuts and unmatched elegance gave fashion a new dimension. He showed how clothing can offer comfort and simplicity along with glamour. His fashion empire went beyond clothing and touched many areas like Armani Casa, Armani Café and Luxury Division. His fashion house issued a statement saying - "He was tireless to the end, dedicated to the company, collections and future plans till his last days."
Fashion designers and celebrities from across the world, including India, paid emotional tributes remembering this great icon. Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) chairman Sunil Sethi said, "It is a great loss for all of us. His name was synonymous with fashion." He said that he worked with him for two years in the launch of Armani Casa and met him in person during the inauguration in Milan. For Sunil Sethi, this was the biggest highlight of his life.
Designer Rahul Mishra said that Armani was not just a master of elegance and simplicity, but also showed how a designer can create a global brand. He created a fashion business model that designers and companies follow even today. According to Mishra, the opportunity to see Armani's vision during his studies and life in Milan was extremely inspiring for him.
Other Indian designers also expressed their grief. Ritu Beri described Armani as a man of “timeless style and creative genius”, while Suneet Varma said he “made glamour effortless and democratic”. Nachiket Barve called his achievements “endless and inspiring”, while Rina Dhaka recalled that her first dream as a young designer was to wear Armani. According to her, Armani was the epitome of “quiet class and elegance”.
With the passing of Giorgio Armani, the fashion world has not just lost a designer but a visionary who taught the world that fashion is not just clothing but also a mindset, lifestyle and confidence. His legacy will always remain a source of inspiration for generations to come.
