Dhruv Rathee Slams Shah Rukh Khan Over Paan Masala Ad: ‘Itne Paise Kaafi Nahi Hai Kya?

Dhruv Rathee, a YouTuber and social commentator, caused a big internet debate by encouraging Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan to reconsider his relationship with paan masala advertising. In a video posted on X (previously Twitter), Rathee questioned why one of India's wealthiest celebrities continues to promote things that are considered dangerous to public health.

Rathee commented that Shah Rukh Khan's net worth of $1.4 billion (₹12,400 crore) is "more than enough." "Mera Shah Rukh Khan se sawaal yeh hai—kya itne paise kaafi nahi hai, kya? Agar kaafi hai, kya majburi padi ke paan masala jaisi haani kaarak cheez ko aap abhi bhi promote kar rahe ho?" he asked in the video. Khan receives between ₹100-200 crore for brand deals, prompting him to consider their societal impact.

Rathee's words have rekindled debate over celebrity accountability and commercial ethics. He stressed that when a personality as popular as Shah Rukh Khan, who is adored by millions, supports such things, it sends a strong — and perhaps detrimental — message to fans, particularly the youth. "Desh ka top actor agar haani kaarak cheezein promote karna bandh kar dega, toh kya impact padega iska desh par?" Rathee inquired, asking to Khan to reflect.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time SRK has been questioned about his brand choices. In an unearthed old interview, the actor himself stated, "If something is bad, ban it. "Do not sell it in our country." Rathee cited this statement, claiming that Khan's recent sponsorship contradicts his previous position.

While Shah Rukh Khan has yet to comment, followers have taken to social media to defend him. Some responded that endorsing a brand does not define a person's ideals, while others acknowledged the criticism as valid and hoped the actor would reconsider future advertisements. On the professional front, Khan is now working on "King," an upcoming film directed by Siddharth Anand and starring Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, and Arshad Warsi.

Rathee's film revived a long-running debate regarding celebrities' role in affecting consumer behavior and the need for tighter ethical advertising standards in India.
